Hex bolts DIN 933 / ISO 4017 STOCKED

The full-thread hex bolt: the most common fastener on any site, and the one most often ordered by the wrong standard. Every family we supply gets a page like this one.

Dimensions

Across-flats (s) and head height (k). The DIN and ISO versions differ at four sizes — the reason a 17 mm spanner fits one M10 bolt and not another.

Where it belongs

Anywhere the bolt passes through and a nut clamps the joint, and the thread in the shear plane is acceptable — general steelwork, equipment mounting, guards, brackets. For preloaded or shear-critical structural connections use the partial-thread ISO 4014 / DIN 931 so the unthreaded shank sits in the shear plane, or the structural grades A325M / A490M.

Mistakes we see

  • Ordering "DIN 933" and receiving ISO 4017 — or the reverse — then finding the spanner size is wrong on M10, M12, M14 and M22. Specify one standard and check the across-flats on the delivery.
  • Full thread in a shear joint. Threads in the shear plane cut capacity by around 20–25% versus the shank. If the design assumed the shank, the joint is under-strength.
  • Class 8.8 bolt, class 6 nut. The assembly then performs at the nut's level. Nuts to ISO 898-2 class 8 minimum.
  • Galvanized bolt, plain nut. It will not run on. Galvanized assemblies are ordered together with oversize-tapped nuts to ISO 10684.

Specify it in one line

Hex bolt ISO 4017 M16 × 60, class 8.8, hot-dip galvanized to ISO 10684, with nut ISO 4032 class 8 (oversize tapped) and washer ISO 7089 HDG — with EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
